An efficient irrigation system is key to the health and longevity of any living green wall. One of the most reliable and water-wise methods is the drip irrigation system with drippers. Designed to deliver water directly to each plant’s root zone, this system ensures optimal hydration while minimizing waste and maintenance.
How It Works
In a drip irrigation system for our green walls, small emitters (drippers) are integrated into a network of tubing that runs from the top down behind the felt pockets. Water is released slowly and consistently through these drippers, allowing it to:
• Soak the felt sleeves where the plant roots are anchored
• Percolate downward by gravity, hydrating lower rows and minimizing waste
• Reduce evaporation and runoff compared to traditional watering methods
Components of the System
1. Water Source Connection – Connected to a main water line (completely automated) or water tank with a pump (manual refill).
2. Drip Lines or Tubing – Flexible pipes that distribute water across the wall.
3. Drippers – Small nozzles that control the flow rate into each pocket or section.
4. Timer/ Controller – Automates the watering schedule to maintain consistency.
5. Drainage System – Captures excess water at the bottom.
